At City Emergency Hospital No. 2, as part of the preparations for the Congress of Surgeons of Siberia, the first domestic surgical tower featuring 4K ICG fluorescence navigation technology was tested. The event also included a master class on the clinical application of the system.

ICG navigation is a method of intraoperative imaging that improves the precision and safety of surgical procedures. When using a specialized video system operating in the infrared range, the distribution of the fluorescent contrast agent becomes visible. This enhances the visualization of anatomical structures, including bile ducts and blood vessels, and allows assessment of their location before the tissue dissection stage.

A solution of indocyanine green is used as the fluorescent agent. The technique provides additional navigational control during surgery and helps the surgeon navigate anatomically complex areas.

The key advantages of the technology include improved patient safety by reducing the risk of intraoperative complications, the ability to perform interventions more precisely, and shorter operating times. It is also worth noting that the system presented is a domestically developed solution, designed in accordance with modern requirements for image quality and surgical equipment functionality.

The master class was conducted by the technology developers — Mikhail V. Kosachenko, MD, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Faculty Surgery, RUDN University, and Alexey E. Klimov, MD, D.Sc., Professor, Head of the Department of Faculty Surgery, RUDN University. Under their guidance, five surgeries using ICG navigation were performed over the course of the day.

One of the clinical cases demonstrated pronounced fluorescent visualization of the gallbladder during cholecystectomy. This approach allows the surgeon to better monitor the stages of the intervention and minimize the risk of damage to surrounding structures.

ICG technology, previously used primarily in oncological surgery, is now finding increasingly broad application in abdominal surgery and is expanding the capabilities of intraoperative visualization.
