Victoria Anatolyevna Shaderkina, urologist, Severskaya Central District Hospital. Objective: to evaluate the necessity of ureteral stent placement after uncomplicated ureteroscopy. Methods. Between August 2004 and April 2005, 85 patients with ureteral stones of varying sizes and locations were admitted to the Urology Department at the Nephrology and Urology Center, Al-Thawra Hospital, Yemen. All patients underwent examination and subsequent ureteroscopy. According to the randomization principles, 45 patients did not receive a stent at the end of surgery (non-stented group), and 40 patients received a stent (stented group). The age of patients in the non-stented group ranged from 6 to 70 years (mean 34.36 ± 15.53), and the stone size ranged from 5 to 20 mm (mean 8.4 ± 3.1 mm). Of the 45 patients, 33 were men and 12 were women. There were 26 stones in the right ureter and 19 stones in the left.
